About Me
Dr Jag runs his own leadership and management consultancy out of Melbourne, Australia but spends a considerable amount of time working with senior executives in Fiji. Since 2017 he has overseen the design and development of a leadership development program for the Fiji public service. He has also been instrumental in designing a leadership program for the Fiji tourism industry over the past decade.
Dr Jag brings to his Fiji programs forty years of experience in leadership and management development as a senior executive in public and private sectors; an internationally recognised educator; and is underpinned by a highly credentialed academic background.
Dr Jag gained his early work experience with the trade union movement in Fiji as their first research officer which gave him exposure to a variety of public and private sector workplace settings across many sectors. He then pioneered national industrial relations programs for managers throughout the country with the then Fiji National Training Council (FNTC). A series of promotions within FNTC saw him having executive responsibility for all national management, leadership, commerce and hospitality training programs by the age of 29. It also gave him early exposure to global best practice leadership development programs.
After roles as CEO of the Fiji Textile, Clothing and Footwear Institute and the Fiji Hotel & Tourism Industry Association, Dr Jag was approached by the then Monash Mt Eliza Business School (MEBS) from Australia to set up a South Pacific branch. This gave him the opportunity to return to leadership and management development. His particular passion has been to provide the best quality executive development programs to Fiji executives, something he has been able to sustain for almost four decades. The Mt Eliza initiative successfully provided leading edge exposure to hundreds of executives and managers in the region. In 2000, MEBS closed its Fiji operations and Dr Jag was relocated to Australia with his family. However that did not stop Dr Jag from continuing to provide his specialist expertise to Fiji managers, something he has continued until COVID-19 struck. He has continued to provide high quality leadership and management training to managers from all sectors in Fiji through the TPAF, the FNU, the Fiji Government and other national bodies.
In 2009, the Training & Productivity Authority of Fiji (TPAF) made a presentation to Dr Jag in recognition of running Fiji’s then longest running management development programme for executives having completed twenty-five years.
It is noteworthy that Dr Jag was the CEO of the Confederation of Postgraduate Medical Education Councils (CPMEC) for over ten years. During this period he oversaw the strategic development of the organisation into the recognised peak body for prevocational medical education and training in Australia and New Zealand. He was instrumental in the development and implementation of the first national leadership and management programs specifically targeting doctors. During his tenure CPMEC developed and implemented a number of major national initiatives to promote national consistency in early postgraduate medical education and he was awarded the Geoffrey Marel Medal in 2013 for having made an outstanding contribution to this phase of medical education and training in Australia and New Zealand. He was the first non-clinician to receive that award.
Dr Jag’s experiences are informed by a distinguished academic background that has included being a Tate & Lyle Cambridge University Scholar and receiving Gold Medals for both his BA and MA studies. In addition he has benefitted from extensive international professional development including attending executive education programs at Harvard University. He has also contributed voluntarily to many community activities in Fiji including serving as a senior official of the Fiji Football Association and advising non-profit organisations and schools.
